Leicester City and Arsenal are still both looking for their first wins of the season after the two sides shared a goalless draw at the King Power Stadium.
Both teams were aiming to bounce back from opening-weekend losses, to Hull City and Liverpool respectively, but could not find a breakthrough in a fiercely-contested game.
Claudio Ranieri’s side suffered a surprise 2-1 loss at Hull City last weekend, while Arsene Wenger endured a 4-3 home loss to Liverpool to experience now familiar early season discontent at Arsenal.
On route to the Premier League trophy last season Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester only failed to score in three matches but were held as both defences stood out, with the Arsenal back line strengthened by the return of Laurent Koscielny. Robert Huth also started for the first time for the defending champions.
Jamie Vardy raced into Arsenal’s penalty box within the first minute and forced a last-ditch clearance from the Arsenal back line. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain provided Arsenal’s first real opportunity, cutting in from the left and whipping a long range strike narrowly wide of the far post.
Leicester had penalty claims waved away when Danny Drinkwater and substitute Ahmed Musa went to ground during the closing moments of each half, although referee Mark Clattenburg was fittingly uninterested as he oversaw a match that did little to fire the imagination.
Wenger was urged, loudly and in very industrial terms, to start spending some money as Arsenal fought through a spell of late Leicester pressure.
It left Arsenal without a win from their first two games and means they are already five points behind Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea – and indeed Hull City.
