Champion SonicFox releases post-Final Kombat tier list for Mortal Kombat 1

Being a consistent multi-title world champion, it’s impossible to deny that Dominique “SonicFox” McLean is one of the absolute greatest (if not the best) fighting game competitors of all time.

SonicFox just dropped their new tier list for Mortal Kombat 1 after recently winning Final Kombat 2024 and adding that championship to their long list of accomplishments.

Unsurprisingly to probably most people following MK1 now, Johnny Cage ends up as the number one character in the game currently, who helped SonicFox seal the deal in grand finals of Final Kombat.

They claim that position could have arguably gone to Peacemaker before, but the most recent patch that nerfed the DC guest fighter knocked him down just slightly in Sonic’s eyes.

Johnny has no bad match ups in MK1 according to the new champ and has a 6-4 advantage over much of the cast with very strong strike-throw mixups when paired with Khameleon that leads to big follow-ups and damage.

Even with the nerfs, Peacemaker is still the only other character in S+ tier with Cage after we saw him used very frequently throughout Final Kombat and overpower the opponent through what appear to at first be disadvantaged situations.

Sonic’s second main they used in Final Kombat, Sindel, is also just behind the top boys too.

As for the latest DLC character in the game, Homelander ends up just outside of the bottom five though he’s still technically in A tier.

They like Homelander’s pressure, zoning and confirms, but calls his damage output just okay in a game where landing just a couple of clean hits can almost seal a round for the strongest characters.

After getting this most recent victory, SonicFox is now technically a back-to-back Final Kombat champion going back to Mortal Kombat 11 in 2020 too along with their other world titles in the Skullgirls World Championship last month, as well as Injustice 2 and a handful of other Evo wins too.
