At the end of the Liturgy, His Eminence Metropolitan Kirill of Kazak addressed the clergy and numerous pilgrims:
Dear brothers and sisters, what happiness that we have a vast multitude of saints! We can’t even imagine how many holy men and women the Murom land has given to the Kingdom of Heaven! And today, we thank God and the Most Holy Mother of God for allowing us to be here on this special celebration day, at the holy relics of the righteous Juliana of Lazarevo in this holy church, to honor her holy memory.
Righteous Juliana, as we know, led a secular way of life. But often this way of life was higher than the angelic image that many of us are clothed in today. She shone in the world brighter than many who dedicated themselves to God in holy monasteries and even in seclusion. Her pious and righteous life is remembered for centuries by generations who lived, are living now, and, God willing, will be in the memory of those people who will still live in this world, because it is an example that even in the most troubled times and in the most ordinary human conditions: both in poverty and in wealth, one can become a saint.
After all, what is required of us today? To be righteous, pious, decent people. Not to do anything bad and not to think anything bad, trying to fulfill what we are supposed to do in life sincerely and with love for the Lord and the people around us, entrusting ourselves in everything to God’s will.
And, seeing the example of the life of St. Juliana of Lazarevo, we believe and hope that this saint will strengthen us in our Christian service, strengthen our faith, and give us the strength to endure all the hardships of our worldly life that overcome us. That we, despite everything, would remain faithful to God as true and genuine Christians!
Righteous Juliana of Lazarevo, MuromRighteous Juliana of Lazarevo and Murom presents an astonishing example of a self-denying Russian Christian woman. She was the daughter of the nobleman Justin Nediurev. From her early years she lived devoutly, kept the fasts strictly and set aside much time for prayer.
