There are a lot of popular female fighting game characters on Capcom’s roster, and one we haven’t seen in a while (but remains popular) is none other than Maki Genryusai. This Bushin-ryu practitioner first debuted back in Final Fight 2, and we haven’t really seen her in a traditional fighting game since her playable appearance in Street Fighter 3 Alpha MAX on the PlayStation Portable back in 2006.
Despite this, the stunning ninja is still a character people want to see make a return, and she currently lives on through the fans’ love for her. One Maki fan, Caytie Cosplay, recently put together an absolutely stunning cosplay of the character, and today we’re shining a much deserved spotlight on it.
For those who are unfamiliar with Maki, allow us to provide a little bit of her background. Like fellow Final Fight / Street Fighter character Guy, Maki is a Bushin-ryu ninja.
She wears a red female ninja outfit, has flowing blonde hair, and fights using a tonfa. Maki also happens to be the sister of Guy’s fiancé, Rena, so her connection to the classic ninja is very strong.
Though a lot of people know Maki from her time in Final Fight 2, we here in the fighting game community know her best for her appearance in the 2001 crossover fighting title, Capcom vs. SNK 2. This was the most competitive fighting game she’s ever been a part of, and we haven’t quite seen her make a similar appearance since.
With all of that having been said, Caytie Cosplay’s depiction of Maki is top notch. The highly skilled cosplayer shared a video on Twitter showing the whole getup without her tonfa, as well as a photo with the weapon in hand.
We consistently see Chun-Li, Juri, Morrigan from Darkstalkers, the female Mortal Kombat ninjas, and several other extremely popular characters get the cosplay treatment, so it’s a real treat to see someone as talented as Caytie drop a cosplay for a lesser represented fighter like Maki.
