In a surprising move, Manchester United is reportedly open to parting ways with Brazilian star Casemiro in the upcoming January transfer window, as per TEAMtalk.
The decision comes amid a challenging season for the club, marked by internal unrest and lagging performance in the Premier League.
Casemiro, who made the switch to Old Trafford from Real Madrid just last year, has found his tenure at United marred by injuries and fitness challenges, hindering his ability to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup.
TEAMtalk has revealed that Manchester United is actively seeking replacements for the midfielder and is willing to negotiate his transfer in January to rejuvenate Erik ten Hag’s squad, especially in their quest for a Champions League spot next season. United has reportedly set a £50 million price tag on the player.
Despite being a celebrated figure with five Champions League titles to his name, Casemiro’s time at United has been less than ideal. Sources close to the player suggest his dissatisfaction with training conditions and the club’s overall struggles.
There’s a strong indication that he might leave the club, either in January or by summer, after a stint that lasted only 18 months following his £70 million move in 2022.
Interest in Casemiro has been brewing from various corners. Notably, Saudi Arabian clubs are keenly eyeing the midfielder, with four clubs believed to be considering an approach.
There’s a sense that Casemiro is open to discussions, possibly joining other high-profile names in the Saudi Professional League.
Paris Saint-Germain’s longstanding admiration for Casemiro remains, though a move seems more likely in the summer. However, interest from Saudi clubs could potentially accelerate PSG’s plans.
In the event of Casemiro’s departure, Manchester United plans to reinvest the proceeds in new talents. Among the names being considered is Benfica’s young star, Joao Neves.
However, acquiring Neves might not be straightforward, as Benfica insists on a £104 million release clause.
Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United has expressed his enthusiasm about playing alongside Neves, though he remains uncertain about Neves fitting into ten Hag’s plans.
The potential exit of Casemiro could, however, open up a spot for Neves.
