If you’re going to welcome a fighting game icon like Terry Bogard as the first ever non-Capcom guest into a Street Fighter game, you’ve got to do it right, and Capcom absolutely went out of their way to make sure this merger is as much a celebratory experience as it is a gameplay one.
We’ve already seen a ton of fun callbacks and references to earlier SNK titles, but developers went even further as to let you perform special attacks from SNK characters who are not Terry Bogard. We’ve got footage below from Shockbrawler.
For those who haven’t played through Street Fighter 6’s single player experience, World Tour Mode, or those who just need a quick refresher, you scurry about the city of Metro City doing tasks for familiar Street Fighter faces and learning special attacks from the game’s cast.
When a new character is added as DLC, they come with a new area and some new attack additions you can add to your custom avatar’s arsenal. Terry follows this same pattern, but there are two other SNK fan favorites, Joe Higashi and Blue Mary, who get in on the action as well.
When walking about Metro City you can run into Joe and do a quest for him that deals with finding an imposter Higashi who’s roaming around. Upon completing this quest, Joe will teach your avatar his trademark Hurricane Upper technique.
You can follow a similar process with Blue Mary, who will in turn teach you how to perform her Vertical Arrow attack. You can check how to find and complete both quests in the video below:
Not only are these Easter egg additions yet another fun touch that plays on the 30+ year history of SNK, they also suggest we may see more of this in the future. SNK’s Mai Shiranui is slated to be the next DLC character en route to Street Fighter 6, and there are plenty of other Fatal Fury and King of Fighters figures Capcom could bring in for more World Tour fun.
We wouldn’t be surprised at all to see the likes of Andy Bogard, for instance, pop up and teach us how to perform his Zan-ei Ken dash or his Kuuha Dan drill kick.
