Though another major fighting game developer will be celebrating a large release next week, Capcom is also set for a big launch on the same day as the Street Fighter series’ first ever guest character joins the fight. That’s right, Terry Bogard of Fatal Fury and King of Fighters fame is being added to the Street Fighter 6 roster by way of Season 2 DLC.
On top of a brand new character to play, Capcom is also implementing some additional bells and whistles to the game that are set to come along with the big Terry update. One such bell and/or whistle is none other than the game’s new V-Rivals mode, which the company has released a brand new trailer for today.
To put it succinctly, Street Fighter 6’s upcoming V-Rivals mode is one that can be accessed in the Battle Hub and essentially brings AI battles into the fray. Players who opt to use it can put together custom settings to create an opponent at a specific skill level with a specific character to better learn how to fight them.
The idea here is to be able to train and improve without having to face real human opponents (who can and will vary in skill level). For example, say I need to better learn how to fight Dhalsim at Master rank. I can create an AI opponent with the settings and control type I need, and then I’ll be entered into a match against an opponent with the exact parameters I set.
Differing from the AI ghost battles we’ve seen in past fighting games that aim to recreate one specific player’s style, V-Rivals creates opponents based off of actual ranked match data.
Below is Capcom’s official description of V-Rivals in Street Fighter 6:
“Announcing a new mode in the Battle Hub: Li-Fen’s V-Rival!
Take the pressure off of fighting real players by facing AI fighters built through analysis of countless online battles of all ranks. Select what character, Control Type, and rank you’d like to face, and V-Rivals will create an opponent from the data of millions of players’ Ranked gameplay data.
This is the perfect feature to improve your game, learn match-ups, and give you confidence to play test your skills.”
In addition to being able to face off against these specifically catered AI opponents, V-Rivals also grants players the ability to receive feedback from Li-Fen about their gameplay. After each match, you can request instant feedback to learn more about what you’re doing in-game and how to improve, which if done correctly should prove a useful tool for players trying to learn how to play Street Fighter 6.
V-Rivals, as well as Terry Bogard, are coming to Street Fighter 6 on September 24.
