Capcom Pro Tour 2023 Japan, an online event for Street Fighter 6, was scheduled to take place this week. The winner of this event would be qualified for Capcom Cup X that is to take place in late February 2024 via one of the 18 premier online slots. It should be noted that there are only five slots remaining in terms of the premier online slots (though there are still the three World Warrior Circuit slots and Last Chance Qualifier slot as well).
However, it seems that the Capcom Pro Tour 2023 Japan event has been postponed until further notice. Capcom Fighters has reported that this is due to a sync issue with Street Fighter 6.
“Unfortunately, due to the current sync issue in game, the Capcom Pro Tour 2023 Japan event will be postponed until further notice,” said Capcom Fighters over on Twitter. “We will update everyone when we have the new dates.”
Around the same time, the official Street Fighter account on Twitter confirmed that the development team is investigating a fix for the communication errors that have been frequently appearing online.
“We have confirmed that communication errors are occurring frequently in online battles and are currently investigating to fix the issue,” posted the Street Fighter account. “The yellow card issued due to this communication error will be resolved through maintenance later on. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
A couple of hours later, the account stated that they “removed the yellow card/red card restriction caused by the error.” For clarification, this system was put in place to punish rage quitting, but has apparently been wrongly affecting players due to the reported sync issue.
It seems likely that this issue has been caused by the recent patch that made available Outfit 3 for 18 out of 20 characters. At the very least, the latest patch seems to be exasperating the problem.
While the patch mostly consisted of bug fixes, it did also make it easier to perform wake up attacks. It’s been noted that performing wake up attacks has been more difficult in Street Fighter 6 when compared to Street Fighter 5.
However, it’s also been reported that the latest patch had another unintentional consequence that seemingly buffed Zangief. For some bizarre reason, Zangief’s level 2 super went from being -35 on block to -8 on block, making it far more difficult to punish.
Of course, the major thing introduced with this latest patch are the Outfit 3 costumes, though there’s certainly been some controversy with regards to the pricing of these costumes.
Regardless, we’ll have to wait until Capcom is able to resolve the issue and reschedule the Capcom Pro Tour 2023 Japan online premier event. As always, coverage will be handled here on EventHubs by our tournament coverage specialist, Nicholas ‘MajinTenshinhan’ Taylor.
Unfortunately, due to the current sync issue in game, the #CPT2023 Japan event will be postponed until further notice. We will update everyone when we have the new dates.
