Capcom’s focus for their DLC approach in Street Fighter 6 thus far has remained rather irksome for many in the playerbase, and while their practices are still continuing, there are some positives to take note of.
The new Spy x Family collaboration actually made a pretty important change with its DLC over the past crossovers and events that we’ve seen, which may have gone overlooked at first glance.
Yes, Capcom primarily released just a couple of avatar outfits for this promotion instead of actually giving Chun-Li a Yor crossover costume or anything, but that’s now what we’re here to talk about for now.
Think back to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collab from last August. Even if they were just avatars of the four brothers, many fans were still pretty enthusiastic until they saw the price tag.
Each full Ninja Turtle costume was priced at 750 Fighter Coins, which equated to around $15 apiece, but made even worse by the fact that you had to spend even more money on a coin bundle just to afford one of them in game.
That pricey trend continued even beyond the crossovers to most recently the Winter Glint and Noble outfits priced upwards of 1,200 FC or a whopping $23 to acquire.
So what makes the Spy x Family DLC any better?
Simply put, it’s because the Yor and Loid costumes didn’t cost Fighter Coins, but rather SF6’s other main currency, Drive Tickets.
Unlike Fighter Coins, players can pretty easily earn Drive Tickets for completing in game missions, and Capcom has also been giving out 1,000 tickets on average to celebrate a character’s birthday.
Within just the past few weeks, they’ve gifted 2,000 free tickets just for signing into the game for Juri and Cammy’s birthdays.
And since both Spy x Family outfits are only 500 DT each, they’re basically free to anyone who’s been regularly playing while still having more tickets left over.
500 Drive Tickets is pretty small too considering other avatar items in the Hub Goods Shop range between 2,000 and 8,000 Drive Tickets each.
It’s almost reminiscent of the Street Fighter 5 days where they’d give out crossover costumes for completing four weekly missions given out over a limited time even if this is still less exciting overall.

Capcom’s never apologized or really addressed their wild pricing structure for cosmetic DLC in SF6, and while they might not be saying sorry with this either, it feels like a potential step in the right direction to get some neat goodies without busting out your actual wallet.
Although the contents of the Spy x Family collab may still be disappointing to many overall, we do need to give them some credit for basically giving these out for free.
Hopefully, this points towards Capcom offering up players more interesting things to use Drive Tickets on and more importantly reward people who keep coming back to the game consistently like they did for SF5.
On top of the outfits, players can receive 11 stickers, 3 frames, and 4 titles to keep for free for signing into the game until January 31.
This all also means you’re going to be seeing a bunch of buff dudes running around the Battle Hub in Yor’s dress for a while.
