Street Fighter 6 received its first new costumes since launch in Outfit 3 all the way back in December 2023 for the original cast, but things have been pretty silent on that front since Akuma, A.K.I., Ed and Rashid received their digs in May.
With a lot of discussions ongoing among players about Outfit 4, Capcom had to just release a statement regarding a post that claimed to include a quote from the developers.
UltimaShadowX recently posted on X/Twitter the supposed quote that quickly garnered a lot of attention online
“Street Fighter 6 Co-Producer Shuhei Matsumoto spoke to IGN about the future of character costumes:
“Despite the hurdles, we are very pleased with the reception to the third outfits! Outfit 4 for every character is on the way and are expected to come out sometime in late 2026!”
While the post appears to have been made as a pretty clear joke since late 2026 would be a really long time to wait for new actual SF6 costumes, this apparently got people going back to Capcom and questioning them about it.
It was apparently enough to make them issue a statement on the matter during the weekend.

“Caution. This user has made posts that differ from or distort the content of the interview,” reads the statement from the official Japanese Street Fighter account translated through Google with some adjustments. “We would appreciate it if you would take the official announcements as correct information.
“We have received a large number of inquiries about this matter in the last few hours, so although it is unusual, we would like to take this opportunity to make this announcement.
“We hope you will continue to enjoy Street Fighter 6.”
So it turns out there was a real interview conducted with IGN Japan over Tokyo Game Show 2024, and Director Takayuki Nakayama and Producer Shuhei Matsumoto were asked about Outfit 4.
Then what did they actually have to say on the matter?
Well, we unfortunately don’t have the full translation yet, but our initial transcription should provide most of the answers.
It appears the lead developers are still cagey about talking about new costumes for Street Fighter 6.
Matsumoto spends most of the time talking about how the response to outfit 3 was really good from the players.
They were surprised by the data they’ve received showing them to be very popular thus far.
Nakayama seems to joke about trying to keep some secrets, but that’s pretty much it.
As far as we can tell at the moment, neither one makes any concrete statements about Outfit 4 or when to really expect them.
We’ll update this when we have the full translation of the discussion, however.
The Season 2 characters of M. Bison, Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui and Elena have at least been confirmed to receive Outfit 3 options as well, but we’re also still waiting to see what those will look like and when they’ll arrive.
Although they aren’t new costumes, special Darkstalkers outfit colors are currently available to unlock for free in Street Fighter 6, but they won’t be around for much longer.
Stay tuned for more updates regarding Street Fighter 6 and their future plans for more content.
