Capcom is asking fans what sequels they'd like to see from dormant franchises including Darkstalkers and other fighting games

Outside of Nintendo, Capcom has arguably the largest roster of iconic video game franchises and recognizable characters even if some of them haven’t received a new entry in a decade or two.

The company recently just launched a new Super Elections promotion as part of their Capcom Town digital attraction that’s asking fans a bunch of questions, including what sequels / remakes they’d like to see.

This special election features 10 questions to fill out like favorite Capcom game, favorite character, what you look for in Capcom games, image you have of the company, sequels / new games you want, remakes you want, first Capcom game played, what Capcom game influenced you most and complaints you have.

As far as options for sequels goes, Darkstalkers is actually at the top of the list followed by Okami, Onimusha, Ace Attorney, Street Fighter, Sengoku Basara, Dino Crisis, Dead Rising, Devil May Cry, Dragon’s Dogma, Toraware No Paruma, Vs. Capcom, Resident Evil, Final Fight, Breath of Fire, Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Monster Hunter, Lost Planet, Mega Man and 1942.

Out of all those series, all of them have sold at least a million copies except for Darkstalkers and Toraware No Paruma, which was a visual novel for mobile and the Nintendo Switch.

Interestingly, Rival Schools isn’t mentioned in the sequels category but is featured in the remakes question along with Final Fight although Power Stone and others are not.

Completing the polls allow you to build a phone wallpaper picking from different options based around Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Ace Attorney, Mega Man and Ghosts ‘n Goblins.

The final results of the Super Election are said to be revealed at a later date though no concrete timeframe was given.

Morrigan and Felicia’s home series hasn’t received a new release since Darkstalkers Resurrection all the way back in 2013 after the now infamous “Darkstalkers are not dead” teaser trailer from New York Comic-Con 2012.

Yoshinori Ono claimed he was still pushing to make a new game back in 2016, but that never happened before he left the Capcom in 2020.

Darkstalkers was featured in the more recent Capcom Fighting Collection alongside Red Earth, Super Gem Fighter, Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo, Cyberbots and Hyper Street Fighter 2, which was another compilation title that added some more modern features to the classic games.

Even if Darkstalkers or Vs. Capcom were to somehow get the most votes in their questions, that doesn’t guarantee that they’d actually receive a new game any time soon, but it is still interesting the developer is still including them for consideration.

We’re almost six and a half years out from Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s release now too, so that game is now as far back as it was compared to Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Unless Capcom brings on another team to work on them like they’ve done with Dimps and others in the past, a new fighting game out of the company is probably still multiple years away considering they just released Street Fighter 6 last year.
