Street Fighter 6 is finally getting its first batch of new character costumes very soon. All 18 fighters from the launch roster are getting new digs, and Capcom’s development team released a blog post that detailed what the inspiration behind each outfit was this time around shortly after the latest costume trailer went live.

When we finally saw Cammy and what she could do in Street Fighter 6 leading up to the game’s launch, fans were quick to notice that her level 3 super took inspiration from her most iconic scene in the Street Fighter 2 animated film. From the looks of it — and by the developers’ own admission — one of Street Fighter 6’s new costumes holds another reference to the animated movie.

Those who are familiar with the Street Fighter 2 movie and have already seen the latest costumes in Street Fighter 6 likely already know what the reference is here. However, for those who don’t know it, let’s discuss.

Revisiting the film for inspiration for Cammy, Capcom’s developers mentioned that a big part of her outfit 3 was pulled from the SF2 movie. It features her in her red coat when she goes undercover on an assassination mission.

“The red coat Cammy wore in the Street Fighter II movie was so striking that I designed her to wear a similar red coat that she might wear when going undercover,” Capcom’s developers wrote. “I designed the coat in a more modern and functional style that I thought would suit her. I also gave her a pendant to symbolize the bond with her allies.”

Naturally, Capcom went a different route for what’s underneath the coat with Cammy’s outfit 3 in Street Fighter 6. In the animated film, Cammy is wearing her classic green body suit, but that look is already used for her outfit 2 in the game.

With the new costume, Cammy wears a high-cut top, shorts, and black boots. They also added more detail to the coat itself, and the whole outfit looks great in Street Fighter 6.

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie was first released back in 1994. As far as Street Fighter media goes, this film is held in high regard and has several iconic scenes that are still referenced and talked about today.
