Capcom has just released a statement on the current state of additional costumes for Street Fighter 6. After a long silence on this front and tons of fan feedback and demand, the company has now provided a full update on the situation.
The statement confirms that new costumes are currently in development for the playable characters on the Versus side of the game (Fighting Grounds). They also give a reason for the delay and talk a bit about how things will be changing with the release of Season 3.
Capcom begins their statement by thanking everyone for their support of Street Fighter 6. They not that the development team is hard at work building and delivering new experiences for players, and with that, they wanted to share some details on what’s to come.
The company states that they are aware of the community’s requests for more playable character costumes for the game’s roster (not avatars), and confirm that the next batch of them has indeed been in development since last year.
They explain that the large delay we’ve seen between Outfit 3’s release and what’s coming next is due to the fact that it takes a lot of development time to make these costumes and release them all at once.
The “all at once” line is particularly interesting as it seems to confirm the theory that Capcom has been aiming for a costume release plan more similar to Street Fighter 4 where there were big gaps in between batches, but every character on the roster would get one at the time of release. This heavily differs from what we saw in Street Fighter 5 where 3-4 costumes would be launched for specific characters every few months or so, which led to the amount of costumes certain (more popular) characters received being heavily lopsided.
Also interesting, is that Capcom says that these new Street Fighter 6 costumes will begin releasing gradually starting this Summer.
Capcom also provided an update on how they intend to do things going forward when it comes to Fighting Passes. Beginning in Season 3, they will be changing things up and are planning on adding more items with each pass that can be used in Fighting Ground mode (the various versus modes).
You can read Capcom’s full statement below.
Thank you very much for all the support and playing Street Fighter 6. The team is working hard on delivering new experiences, and we would like to inform you about some upcoming content plans.
We’ve seen the requests from the community and would like to share that we’ve been working on new Fighting Ground character outfits since last year. However, please note it’s difficult for us to release every character outfit all at once due to the amount of time it takes to develop them. We plan to begin releasing them gradually starting this summer.
Regarding future Fighting Passes, we have been reassessing their contents and the frequency of their release, and will be making changes starting in Year 3 – with the goal of increasing the amount of items within each Fighting Pass that can be used in Fighting Ground.
Rest assured, we will continue to put our best efforts into ongoing development and service operations for Street Fighter 6. Thank you so much for your continued support!
Sincerely,
The Street Fighter 6 Development Team
