Capcom Cup X finalist demonstrates how the recent nerf for Ken could actually be a buff in disguise in Street Fighter 6

The latest update for Street Fighter 6 that added Ed as a DLC fighter also applied some balance adjustments to a few characters. Of those that were tweaked, JP, Luke, and Ken received some notable nerfs to their kits.

For Ken, using a forward throw against a cornered opponent will apply some extra distance between the two fighters. As such, Ken’s throw loop sequence has become more strict, but it’s still possible to pressure opponents with a variation of it.

Kusanagi, the competitor that finished at ninth place at Capcom Cup X, recently shared some interesting tech in Street Fighter 6 that is based around the latest update’s nerf for Ken. As it turns out, players may be able to turn this nerf into a buff of sorts.

After performing a forward throw, Ken can throw an Overdrive fireball at the opponent. Due to the amount of distance set between the two, an Overdrive fireball will leave Ken at +7 on block.

Should the projectile hit, Ken will actually have enough frame advantage to link into his standing heavy punch which can then lead into a series of Drive Rushes. Using a Critical Art at the end of the combo, it’s possible for Ken to deal upwards of 5,936 points of damage, or about 60% of a health bar against most characters.
