CHICO — As cold nights taper in summer’s approach, opportunities for campgrounds in Butte County are now open for the season.
Here are a few places to pitch a tent within a short drive’s distance.
Lake Oroville
Reservations at Lake Oroville State Recreation Area are now open at reservecalifornia.com or by phone at 800-444-7275.
• Bidwell Canyon campground, 801 Bidwell Canyon Road, reservations are $45 per night.
• Lime Saddle campground, 3428 Pentz Road, reservations are $45 per night.
• Loafer Creek campground, Loafer Creek Road off Highway 162, reservations are $25 per night.
Lassen National Forest
Campgrounds in Lassen National Forest are open and outfitted with metal fire pits, toilets and drinking water. Campsites are available first-come, first-served basis.
• Butte Meadows campground, Humboldt Road off Highway 32, sites are $12 per night.
• Cherry Hill campground, Humboldt Road, past Butte Meadows, off Highway 32, sites are $14 per night.
• Potato Patch Campground, off Highway 32 past the Butte County border, sites are $14 per night.
The ridge
• Philbrook Lake campground, Philbrook Road off Skyway, sites are managed by PG&E, and reservations are a two-night minimum for $44 at recreation.pge.com/reservation/camping.
• Paradise Pines RV and Campground, 14360 Skyway, sites are $25 per night for two adults available at paradisepinesrv.com.
