The Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP), has attributed the party’s victory in the August 11, Obudu State Constituency bye-election, which was won by Mrs. Abbey Ukpukpen to the leadership quality of Governor Ben Ayade as well as the support the party enjoys at the grassroots level.
In a congratulatory letter signed by the state chairman, Ntufam Edim Inok, the party noted that “the outcome of the election was indicative of the commitment, dedication and loyalty the governor has brought to bear on the party.”
Abbey is widow to late Steven Ukpuken, who until his death was a member representing Obudu State Constituency in the House of Assembly,
While describing the victory as resounding, Inok stated that “the PDP as a party is proud to state that the entire process was a clear validation of Ayade’s acceptability and stewardship to the people of Cross River. It was also an affirmation of his presence at the mass following he enjoys back home.”
Continuing, party chairman offered: “Even if it was a popularity contest to show who was on ground, the result demonstrated clearly that he is the most popular personality from Obudu and any other person staking a claim to being popular is a mere wishful thinking.”
Inok who called on Cross Riverians to replicate a similar feat in the 2019 elections by rallying behind Governor Ayade and the party, said: “The only way to show appreciation to the governor for his rapid industrialization across the state is to ensure that we equip ourselves with our Personal Voters Cards (PVCs) to vote massively to ensure his reelection in 2019.”
