Position Overview

  • The Business Development Advisor will play a critical role in securing funding opportunities and ensuring GGHN’s financial sustainability.
  • This role involves identifying and tracking funding opportunities, leading proposal development in collaboration with technical teams, and fostering strategic partnerships to diversify revenue streams.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong experience in business development, grant writing, and partnership cultivation, with a track record of securing funding from private, corporate, philanthropic, and multilateral sources.

Key Responsibilities

Funding Opportunity Identification & Proposal Development:

  • Conduct regular market scans to identify funding opportunities from governments, multilaterals, foundations, corporate donors, and private sector initiatives.
  • Lead and coordinate proposal writing in conjunction with technical teams, ensuring alignment with donor requirements and GGHN’s strategic priorities.
  • Develop high-quality concept notes, bids, and grant applications, ensuring competitive positioning and responsiveness to funding calls.
  • Maintain an updated pipeline of potential funding opportunities and proactively communicate relevant calls for proposals to the team.

Strategic Partnerships & Donor Engagement:

  • Build and sustain relationships with non-traditional donors, including corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, philanthropic organizations, and impact investors.
  • Represent GGHN in donor meetings, networking events, and conferences to enhance visibility and position the organization for funding.
  • Collaborate with local and international partners to explore joint funding applications and consortium opportunities.

Revenue Diversification & Sustainability Planning:

  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce dependence on traditional donor funding by exploring alternative business models.
  • Support the establishment of fee-for-service models, social enterprises, and innovative financing mechanisms to generate unrestricted revenue.
  • Provide strategic guidance on positioning GGHN for funding in humanitarian, health, and development sectors.

Performance Benchmarking & Reporting:

  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including the number of funding opportunities identified, proposals submitted, funds secured, and new partnerships developed.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on business development progress, funding trends, and strategic opportunities.
  • Maintain a centralized database of donor engagement, funding applications, and award outcomes for institutional learning and improvement.

Performance Evaluation Criteria

  • Number of funding opportunities identified and shared with relevant teams.
  • Number of proposals submitted and success rate in securing funding.
  • Growth in strategic partnerships and donor engagements.
  • Contributions to revenue diversification and financial sustainability.
  • Effectiveness in supporting proposal writing and aligning with technical teams’ programmatic goals.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in business administration, International Development, Public Health, or a related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in business development, fundraising, or donor engagement, preferably in the public health or development sector.
  • Proven track record of securing major grants and contracts from institutional donors, private sector partners, and foundations.
  • Strong proposal writing skills with experience developing technical and cost proposals for complex funding mechanisms.
  • Excellent networking, negotiation, and relationship management skills with the ability to engage high-level stakeholders.
  • Experience working with digital tools for donor research, CRM, and business development tracking.

Work Environment & Expectations:

  • Hybrid work model (minimum 3 days in Abuja office per week).
  • Flexibility to travel for donor engagements, networking events, and proposal development meetings.
  • Collaboration across technical, finance, and program teams to drive resource mobilization efforts.
