The Executive President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, in the 47 name list of career ambassadors sent to the National Assembly for approval, has nominated two Cross Riverians for the juicy diplomatic position.

Their names are, Mr Martin Nyong Cobham from Calabar South LGA in southern senatorial district and Mrs Janet Bisong Ojeka presumably from Boki LGA in central senatorial district. Concerning Mr. Cobham, one Mr Richard Duke has said the following:

'Ambassador Cobham is a very experienced career diplomat and has been on various diplomatic assignments globally spanning a period of over 20 years.

Ambassador Cobham is currently the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner in Pretoria, South Africa and was highly visible during the South African Xenophobic attacks on Nigerian citizens in 2015 and was among the senior Nigerian diplomats recalled during that period.

Ambassador Cobham was also deeply involved in diplomatic negotiations to appease the South Africa government during the time 116 South Africans died in Nigeria when the Synagogue Church of All Nations’ guesthouse collapsed. He boldly put the blame on pastor T.B.Joshua when it wasn’t a popular position to take'.

However, this nomination list is perceived by some critics to be heavily pro-northern Nigeria as they constitute a higher percentage of this geopolitical zones.
