BTS in the White House: K-pop stars talk to Biden about anti-Asian hate

President Joe Biden hosted the K-pop band BTS on the final day of Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month at the White House.

BTS sent a clear message to President Biden. They spoke about combating the rise in hate crimes targeting Asian Americans.

Band members J-Hope, RM, Suga, Jungkook, V, Jin, and Jimin joined White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at the official briefing with reporters in the room.

To culminate the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Jimin said the band had been “devastated by the recent surge” of crime and intolerance against Asian Americans after Covid-19 became the deadliest pandemic of recent times.

“It’s not wrong to be different,” through an interpreter.

Suga said

“Equality begins when we open up and embrace all of our differences.” V said that “everyone has their own history.”

“We hope today is one step forward to understanding and respecting each and everyone as a valuable person,” V mentioned.

We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected,” BTS wrote in 2021. “We will stand together.”

The White House live-streamed the visit of the most famous band of the moment. The presence of BTS attracted more than 230,000 viewers before the event even began.
