Bryan Robson has admitted Ruben Amorim “has a massive job on his hands” at Manchester United.

United are undergoing a major transformation under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has implemented cost-cutting measures.

Two months after reports emerged that Robson would be affected, he has now broken his silence.

Robson, Denis Irwin, and Andy Cole held ambassadorial roles at United on paid retainers.

However, their salaries will be ‘significantly reduced’ from next season as part of Ratcliffe’s changes.

Since taking control of football operations, Ratcliffe has enforced sweeping financial reforms at the club.

Sir Alex Ferguson is also set to step down from his ambassadorial role in May after years of service.

Robson, one of United’s most iconic figures, made nearly 500 appearances across 13 years at the club.

He has long represented United in a global capacity, working with sponsors, fans, and partners.

In his role, he has been present on pre-season tours and major club events worldwide.

Despite the reductions, Robson remains a respected figure whose views hold weight with supporters.

Last week, he shared his thoughts on Amorim and United’s rebuild.

Bryan Robson on Ruben Amorim’s challenge

Speaking to The Mirror via BetSelect, Robson acknowledged the scale of Amorim’s task.

“Amorim has got a massive job on his hands,” he said.

He compared it to Sir Alex Ferguson’s early days, when the legendary boss rebuilt United.

“But when he came into the club, he brought Eric Harrison, Brian Kidd, and Nobby Stiles onto the staff.”

“He said, ‘go out and bring me the best young players from around Manchester.’”

“That’s how he ended up with the Class of 92, who came into a team that had already won the Premier League.”

Robson credited Ferguson’s vision for United’s dominance in the 1990s and 2000s.

“You could see the boss planning it,” he said.

“He brought in great players with great attitude – and that’s why he was so successful.”

However, Robson believes Amorim faces a tougher challenge in today’s competitive landscape.

“It’s a lot tougher for Amorim because of the competition,” he admitted.

“Manchester United were massive back in the day, and people weren’t talking as much about clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal.”

“But now, there are a lot of massive clubs with big owners.”

“You’ve got a lot more competition now than Fergie had back in the day when I was playing.”

End of an era for United’s ambassadors

Ferguson relied on Robson as his captain during United’s rise to dominance.

Irwin and Cole also played key roles before transitioning into their ambassadorial positions.

The latest cost-cutting measures under Sir Jim Ratcliffe signal a shift in how United operates off the pitch.

Robson remains connected to the club and recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for charity.

However, his official appearances for United are set to be reduced moving forward.

Despite the changes, his insights and legacy remain significant to the club’s supporters.
