Bruno Fernandes is without a doubt one of the major players at Old Trafford, being rewarded with the captain’s band to show it.
The Portuguese star joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2020 for €65 million and quickly asserted himself as a key member of the starting line-up.
Over the last four years, Fernandes has made 244 appearances for The Red Devils, with 79 goals and 70 assists to help towards a League title and FA Cup title.
However, things haven’t been so rosey at Old Trafford for the club’s captain.
New reports have emerged, saying that the club’s performances has been taking its toll on Fernandes.
United are currently in 14th place in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League, marking one of the worst starts to a season yet.
This comes on the back of their worst Premier League finish last season, coming in eighth.
Whilst Erik ten Hag has been under much scrutiny for the poor performances, he’s escaped being sacked on two occasions now. However the results are clearly affecting the club.
Reports from ESPN claim that Bruno Fernandes was prepared to leave this summer after growing tired of the club’s repeated failure to deliver, but eventually stayed and signed a contract after the club panicked and gave him a massive new deal.
Unfortunately for Fernandes, it’s not just the club’s performances that have faltered, with his own being problematic of late, picking up two red cards in two games.
Hopefully, for United, ten Hag and Fernandes, the team’s performances can turn around soon and start getting results to launch the club back to the top of European football.
