Bruno Fernandes issues rallying cry ahead of Europa League clash

Manchester United’s rollercoaster season took another dip at the weekend, leaving fans once again wondering where the real fight is.

Sunday’s 4-1 collapse at Newcastle marked the club’s 14th Premier League loss of the season — a performance that sparked outrage among supporters and piled further pressure on Ruben Amorim.

Despite Alejandro Garnacho finding the net to briefly bring the Red Devils level, the second-half unraveling exposed the fragility that’s haunted them all season.

Now, all eyes turn to Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg at Old Trafford, where Lyon await after last week’s 2-2 draw in France.

With their season on the brink, Manchester United know this could be one of their final chances to salvage a sense of pride and progress.

But Bruno Fernandes isn’t backing down.

Speaking to MUTV, the United captain rallied his teammates and supporters ahead of the must-win clash.

“We will fight back on Thursday,” Fernandes said.

“We will fight back and we will put everything back on the pitch that we have to do.”

The Portuguese playmaker was subbed off late in Sunday’s match as Amorim sought to conserve energy for the all-important European fixture — a game Fernandes knows will demand more than just technical quality.

“From tomorrow on, we are going to put our heads on to the game, fresh legs, fresh minds and together with the fans, we are going to do something special again,” he added.

United fans had travelled in full voice to St James’ Park, but left dejected after Harvey Barnes’ brace and a costly mistake by second-choice keeper Altay Bayindir.

With the possibility of Andre Onana returning to the starting XI, questions still linger over Amorim’s selection and whether injuries to Joshua Zirkzee and fatigue for Garnacho will force further changes.

Bruno Fernandes, though, made one thing clear: the players owe the fans.

“They have always been by our side,” he said. “So it’s time for us to pay back.”

He concluded: “It’s going to be a big game for us, it’s going to be a big game for the club… we have to be at the level.”

Fernandes’ rallying cry sets the stage for a defining night at Old Trafford.
