Britney Spears had a falling out with her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears. This happened during a time that Britney refers to as her forced rehab stint in early 2019. “My father said that if I didn’t go, then I’d have to go to court, and I’d be embarrassed,” she writes. She remembers being given lithium and being held there “against my will” for months.
She couldn’t go outside. She wasn’t allowed to drive. She was required to give blood every week. Privacy was a luxury she couldn’t afford, even in the bath. She couldn’t even shut her room door.
Britney reached out to Jamie Lynn from the rehab facility. She was desperate for help. But her sister’s response, as per the book, was, “Stop fighting it. There’s nothing you can do about it, so stop fighting it.”
Britney felt betrayed. She wrote, “I didn’t understand how Jamie Lynn and our father had developed such a good relationship. She knew I was reaching out to her for help…I felt like she should have taken my side.”
The sisters had a public spat in early 2022 over Jamie Lynn’s memoir, Things I Should Have Said. Britney felt that Jamie Lynn was spreading scandalous stories about her. Some of these stories, she says, were hurtful and outrageous.
Despite everything, Britney admits she loves her sister. She’s trying to replace her anger with compassion. Not just for Jamie Lynn, but for everyone who she feels has wronged her. But it’s not easy.
E! News tried to get Jamie Lynn’s side of the story. She appeared on E!’s Daily Pop in 2022 and said that she and Britney “go back and forth, but at the end of the day, the love and support will always be there.”
