She born in Sacramento California February 21, 1961, and peacefully transitioned into the arms of her Savior on December 12, 2024, at the age of 63. Hempstead was a trailblazer and a bright light in this world—an activist, mentor, teacher, mother, grandmother, cousin, sister, friend, and the faith-filled founder of Cierra Sisters. Her remarkable legacy continues to inspire and uplift lives around the globe.
At her core, Hempstead lived a Christ-centered life, and her actions and decision were rooted in her unwavering faith and love for the Lord. Her life was a living testimony of God’s grace, and she never missed an opportunity to share her faith with those around her. Hempstead believed deeply in the power of prayer and the assurance of God’s promises, and her light shone brightest in the way she served others with love, humility, and compassion.
Hempstead was a vibrant, adventurous spirit with an infectious laugh and a quick wit that kept everyone around her smiling. She was known for cracking jokes until her very last days, often leaving her family and friends doubled over in laughter. Whether she was playfully teasing her grandchildren, telling an unexpected joke, or delivering her signature one-liners, her humor reminded us all to find joy, even in the hardest moments.
Her sense of adventure and zest for life were unmatched—she embraced new experiences with enthusiasm and encouraged her loved ones to do the same. Her daughters and grandchildren, will forever carry her adventurous spirit and joyous legacy in their hearts.
Hempstead was also a servant leader, a tireless advocate, and the compassionate founder of Cierra Sisters, an organization that has become a beacon of hope for individuals navigating the complex and often isolating journey of breast cancer. With faith as her foundation, Hempstead poured her heart into serving others, helping individuals and their families find strength, resources, and spiritual encouragement during some of life’s darkest moments. She was more than an advocate—she was a champion, an encourager, and a friend who walked alongside countless people, sharing not only practical support but also the unshakable hope of Christ.
Hempstead empowered and encouraged thousands through Cierra Sisters to; boldly take charge of their health, know their rights as they navigate through our healthcare system, view life as a gift from God, and lean on Christ during challenging times. She cultivated a community of support that reflected her values of love, resilience, and unity. Her dedication to serving others and her ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved is the cornerstone of her enduring legacy.
She leaves behind her beloved family, including her Daughters Dolores (Jonathan Scott), Shaprece Renee’, Shayla (Olu) Akande, nine siblings, Ben Adams, Melvin(Michelle)Hempstead, Kim Hempstead, Zina Hempstead, Beltroy T. Hempstead, Zanell Hempstead, Tonya Hempstead, Atiya Hempstead, Arifa Allah-Hempstead, preceded in death by Mother Dolores (Victor) Hempstead, Father Beltroy Hempstead, brother Ahmad K. Hempstead, a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and an extended global family of friends and colleagues who cherished her deeply. Hempstead’s legacy of faith, humor, strength, and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Hempstead now rejoices in heaven, and her light will never dim. Her work through Cierra Sisters will never cease, and the life she lived will always remind us to laugh, trust God, and embrace each day with joy and courage.
