A major clear-out is expected under Ruben Amorim, who has already begun evaluating the futures of several first-team regulars.
With Financial Fair Play and the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules looming large, the club is expected to move on a number of players, including some with expiring contracts.
United have just eight games left in all competitions this season, and while the focus remains on finishing strong, key transfer decisions are already being made behind the scenes.
One such decision involves a player whose time at Old Trafford appears to be drawing to a quiet close.
Christian Eriksen, who joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2022 after a short stint with Brentford, is edging closer to a return to his former club.
The Danish playmaker formed an important midfield trio with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro during his debut campaign, but has since fallen down the pecking order.
With his contract expiring in June, Christian Eriksen has already confirmed that he has not been offered an extension and is preparing for the next chapter of his career.

Speaking to Danish outlet TV2 Sport, Eriksen said: “I haven’t been told anything [about a United extension] and since I haven’t, I assume the collaboration will end.”
He added: “That’s how I interpret it.
“Everyone knows my contract is expiring, so I expect there’s only one way this will go.”
Brentford manager Thomas Frank, who brought Eriksen to the Bees after his recovery from cardiac arrest in 2021, has now openly welcomed the possibility of a reunion.
“Christian is a fantastic player, probably the best Danish player in recent times,” said Frank.
“There is no doubt that Christian wants to play some more.
“He had a fantastic time when he was with us… Nothing is closed.”
When asked directly about talks with Eriksen’s camp, Frank replied: “It’s clear that I can’t be that specific one way or the other.
“But let me put it this way: Nothing is closed.”
Manchester United are set to face Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals this Thursday, but for Eriksen, the spotlight may soon shift from European ambitions to a familiar Premier League return.
