Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States (US), marking his return to the White House for his second term in office.
At the event which was held inside the U.S.Capitol Rotunda Building in Washington, Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of office to Trump, while Justice Brett Kavanaugh administered the oath of office to his Vice President, J. D. Vance.
Vance was sworn in first and recited his oath saying, “I James David Vance do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
Trump recited his oath saying,”I Donald John Trump do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God.”
Trump takes over from President Joe Biden who served for one term before dropping his re-election bid to support his Vice President, Kamala Harris, who eventually lost to Trump at the November 5 election.
In a farewell speech from the oval office last week, Biden listed his achievements during his tenure, thanking Americans for their support, while raising concerns over a possible power control by “a very few ultra wealthy people”.
“Today, I warn the country about some things that give me great concern,” Biden said, citing “a dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a very few ultra wealthy people.
According to Biden, there are “dangerous consequences if their abuse of power is not checked.
“I’m so proud of what we have accomplished together for the American people and I wish America success because I want America to succeed,” he stated.
