Multiple sources are reporting that Richard Arnold, the CEO of Manchester United, is set to leave the club by the year’s end.
Arnold, who succeeded Ed Woodward as the chief executive in 2021, played a pivotal role in bringing Erik ten Hag on board as the team’s manager.
Despite this, his management of the Mason Greenwood situation has drawn significant criticism. On top of that, the poor start to campaign by United has only made his tenure worse.
In related news, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is on the verge of becoming a minority shareholder in Manchester United. It’s understood that Ratcliffe will be investing £1.4 billion for a 25% stake in the club.
With this new role, Ratcliffe is set to oversee football operations, a move that seems to have precipitated Arnold’s impending departure.
Sky News has reported that Patrick Stewart, currently serving as Manchester United’s general counsel, is set to step in as the interim CEO while retaining his current responsibilities. Whilst, Jean-Claude Blanc is tipped to replace Richard Arnold permanently, per The Athletic.
This development follows a year marked by speculation and uncertainty regarding the future ownership of the club. An announcement providing more clarity on this matter is expected to be made next week.
