There was an occurrence of a powerful explosion in the city of Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Tuesday morning at a location near the densely populated Terminus market area.

It was learnt that the incident occurred around 10am on Tuesday without any certainty as to casualties and extent of damage.
The source revealed further to PUNCH that several people were injured in the blast, with some sources suggesting there may have been fatalities.
“I was nearby when I heard a loud bang. I saw people running and screaming. It was terrifying,” Gyang Buba, a clothes vendor said.
Some security sources at the police command headquarters in Jos also confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation had been launched.
“The area has been cordoned off as investigators begin to assess the situation. We are working to determine the cause of the explosion,” the source added.
“We urge calm and assure the public that we will do everything possible to ensure their safety.”
Neither the state government nor the police has issued any official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
