Several households in Nigeria have again been plunged into darkness as the national grid collapsed on Thursday for the second time in the three days.
This was announced in a circular issued on Thursday morning by Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.
The company said, “Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today 07 November, 2024 at 11:29Hrs affecting supply within our network.”
“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders,” it assured.
This was also confirmed in a post shared on X by the popular handle of the Nigeria National Grid.
“Another Grid Setback Experienced,” the post reads.
On Tuesday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that the national grid experienced a partial disturbance.
The company explained that the disturbance was triggered by a series of line and generator trippings, which led to instability in the grid.
The TCN said data from the National Control Centre (NCC) revealed that a part of the grid was not affected by the bulk power disruption.
A panel set up by the Nigerian government on Wednesday submitted its report, identifying poor maintenance culture and outdated equipment as some of key factors contributing to the frequent cases of national power grid collapse.
