After spending over four years with Manchester United, Mateo Mejia has officially sealed a transfer to Sevilla.

The deal, as reported by Rob Dawson from ESPN, includes a performance-based fee for United, along with a sell-on clause.

Mejia joined Manchester United’s Academy back in 2019, coming from his local club, Real Zaragoza. The 20-year-old, originally from the northern region of Spain, also qualifies to play for Colombia due to his family background and made his first appearance for their U-20 team in December 2022.

Despite facing a few injuries, Mejia made a name for himself in the Under-21s, participating in 15 games and scoring notable goals against Arsenal and Leicester City in the 2022/23 season.

His progress saw him joining the youth squad’s trip to the United States last summer, where he featured in a friendly match against Wrexham, coming on as a substitute for Shola Shoretire in San Diego.

Under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, Mejia had the opportunity to train with the first team at Manchester United. In the current season, he played 12 times for Travis Binnion’s side, including three EFL Trophy matches, scoring three goals.

Mejia’s move to Sevilla marks a reunion with Hannibal, his former youth teammate, who recently joined Sevilla on a loan deal from Manchester United.
