The President of the Nigeria Labour Party, Comrade Joe Ajaero has been released on bail by the Department of State Security (DSS).
Ajaero was arrested on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on his way to the United Kingdom for an official assignment.
He was billed to attend the Trade Union Congress conference in London, which begins today.
Activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, confirmed his release via a post on X/Twitter on Monday night.
He said, The fascist regime of @officialABAT has released the @NLCHeadquarters President Joe Ajaero from @OfficialDSSNG custody on bail.
“The @NLCHeadquarters must declare for #FearlessInOctober #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria. NoGoingBack.”
Also confirming his release, human rights activist and one of the lawyers of the NLC, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the release in a message he sent to THE WHISTLER.
He said, “Yes, he has been released.”
The NLC had held an emergency meeting where they demanded his release on or before midnight of Monday in order to avert shutting down the economy.
