The Nigerian police have released singer, comedian and content creator, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, on bail.
Darlington was arrested and detained following a petition from fellow musician, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, alleging cyberstalking.
The controversial Akpi musician was released to lawyer Deji Adeyanju after meeting conditions stipulated by police at the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team’s Department in the Guzape area of Abuja.
SaharaReporters learnt on Tuesday that Speed Darlington was arrested last Friday.
Adeyanju earlier on Tuesday told SaharaReporters that he had seen the petition written against Darlington by afrobeat musician, Burna Boy
Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos and taken to various formations in the state before he was taken to Abuja and detained by the IRT team, which accused him of cyberstalking Burna Boy.
Adeyanju noted that there was nothing in the petition to warrant Darlington’s arrest.
“I have met Speed Darlington and he’s in good spirits, we are working to get him released on bail as soon as possible,” Adeyanju told SaharaReporters earlier on Tuesday.
A police ACP investigating the case told Adeyanju that the police could not release a copy of the petition to him but allowed the lawyer read and digest the content.
Darlington’s mother, known as Queen, had earlier alleged that Burna Boy and his team were responsible for her son’s disappearance.
In a video message, Queen narrated how her son’s gateman informed her that Speed Darlington was taken away by Burna Boy and his team.
Queen had begged Burna Boy to release her son, kneeling down in the video to show her desperation.
Her plea came after Speed Darlington was declared missing.
“Nigerians please come and help me, my son, Speed Darlington has been missing for over four days now, after he made a video about Burna Boy and Diddy.
“Burna Boy came to his house with his squad and police and they arrested Akpi. Please, Nigerians, Akpi is my only son. Please, Nigerians help me and beg Burna Boy to release my son,” she said.
