Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has raided Urban 94.5FM, one of the popular radio stations in Enugu State.
SaharaReporters gathered on Tuesday morning that the lawless operatives of the commission stormed the station around 6pm on Monday, halted live broadcast, detained presenters and seized equipment worth millions.
A broadcaster, Favour Ekoh, was reported to have been forcefully removed from a live programme on Urban Radio, causing significant disruption and raising concerns about press freedom.
In a statement issued on Monday night, the management of the Radio Station said they were shocked as the EFCC was yet to give any official statement why their staff were abducted and equipment seized.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, EFCC is yet to issue any official statement why its officials stormed the radio station.
SaharaReporters’ efforts to speak with the EFCC’s Head Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale were unsuccessful as he did not take his calls.
As at the time of filing this report, he had yet to respond to a text message seeking his comment.
