Brandon Williams insists Manchester United should have kept former manager

Brandon Williams has finally broken his silence on Manchester United’s decision to sack a former manager.

The Englishman labelled it a mistake that disrupted the club’s momentum.

Williams is currently undergoing a legal battle, facing a potential prison sentence.

The 24-year-old, who came through United’s academy, was handed his senior debut in 2019 and went on to make 51 appearances before being released last summer.

Despite loan spells at Norwich and Ipswich, Williams never fully broke into the first-team picture.

He has since taken a break from professional football.

It recently emerged that club legend Patrice Evra was the one who first recommended Williams to the manager who gave him his debut.

Though his time at the club came to an end alongside fellow departees Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial, Williams has stayed vocal in his support for those who helped shape his career.

In an emotional interview on Ben Foster’s Fozcast, the full-back launched a passionate defence of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who handed him his big break.

“For me, he’s probably the best I’ve worked under,” Williams said.

“Even off the pitch, speaking to you, giving you advice, especially because I was young as well – he was like a really good mentor.”

“I don’t think he [Ole] should have ever got sacked, to be honest.

“I think he was going in the right direction.

“He knew the club, he knew what it was about, he knew the DNA of the club.

“That’s what’s been driven into me since I was a young kid… the United way.

“I felt like he brought that.”

Solskjaer recently returned to football management, taking over at Besiktas in January.

He has since turned around their season in just a few short months.

Ruben Amorim is now the man in the hot seat, with the task of bringing those same principles and stability back to Old Trafford.
