The police command in Borno said it successfully diffused an improvised explosive device (IED) at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri on Monday.
The command’s spokesman, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident on Tuesday in Maiduguri.
Mr Daso said that at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday, a suspicious device was noticed near the institution’s main gate, with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team deployed to the scene.
“In swift response, the command’s Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) swung into action and successfully diffused the IED without loss of lives or property,” he said.
Mr Daso added that the command also sanitised the general area to ensure it was safe. He said the command had started an investigation to uncover the perpetrators and their motives.
The police spokesman urged Borno residents to report any suspicious objects or persons to the nearest security outfit to prevent loss of lives and properties.
