Benjamin Sesko has quickly risen as one of Europe’s most promising young strikers in the game right now.
The Slovenian striker has had a tremendous first season at RB Leipzig, arriving from sister club RB Salzburg last summer for €24 million.
He’s already made 42 appearances for the German club across all competitions since arriving in July 2023, grabbing 18 goals and setting up teammates on two occasions.
His natural ability infront of goal has supported Leipzig to their fourth place finish in the Bundesliga this season and was a part of the team to beat Bayern Munich 3-0 in the DFL-Supercup final, winning his first piece of silverware with the German club.
Sesko is building on the winning ways he set at RB Salzburg with three consecutive years winning the Austria Bundesliga between 2020/21 and 2022/23, whilst also winning the OFB-Cup in 2021/22 and gaining the Golden Boot for the tournament with five goals in five games.
It’s no surprise that with such a successful career already, the 21-year-old has 29 caps to his name, having scored 11 goals already for the Slovenian national team and no doubt will be hoping to get a few more representing his team in the European Championships this month in Germany.
With the impressive upwards trajectory this youngster is on, it’s understandable that top clubs are circling for his signature, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea to name but a few.
However, Fabrizio Romano has reported on X that Sesko has made the decision to remain with the German club, to build on their successful campaign from last year.
One positive take away for United however from this new deal between RB Leipzig and Sesko, is the inclusion of a “gentleman’s agreement”, whereby a future exit can take place if both parties decide the time is right.
With his contract set to expire in 2028, joining Leipzig on a five year deal last summer which included a £55 million release clause, it’s now expected that the release clause has been removed, having negotiated improved terms with the German club, committing his future to the team.
