The former Liverpool and Chelsea manager has replaced Steve McClaren on Tyneside to take up the task of trying to maintain the Toon’s Premier League status.
Rafael Benitez will earn a £3 million bonus if he manages to maintain Newcastle’s Premier League status, according to The Times.
The ex-Valencia and Inter boss was appointed as the Toon’s new manager on a three-year, £6m-a-season deal on Friday, replacing Steve McClaren at the helm.
Benitez has a difficult task on his hands trying to steer Newcastle away to safety, with the club currently 19th in the Premier League on 24 points with just 10 games to go.
However, the Spaniard is reportedly in line to receive a large pay out if he succeeds in reversing their slide towards the Championship.
