Manchester United’s struggles continued into 2025 as Ruben Amorim’s side endured a humbling 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at Old Trafford.
United have now lost four consecutive matches across all competitions, including their Carabao Cup quarter-final exit.
The Red Devils’ last victory came in December, when they staged a dramatic 2-1 comeback against Manchester City at the Etihad.
Monday’s match against Newcastle saw United overwhelmed in the first half, conceding twice inside the opening 20 minutes.
Alexander Isak struck early before Joelinton doubled Newcastle’s lead, leaving Amorim’s men with no response.
The defeat leaves United languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, just seven points above the relegation zone.
Amorim’s side face an uphill battle next as they prepare to travel to Anfield for a clash with league leaders Liverpool.
As United’s season continues to unravel, one moment during the Newcastle loss caught the attention of fans and pundits alike.

Ben Foster has spoken out about the difficult situation involving United and Joshua Zirkzee, who was substituted after just 33 minutes.
Amorim pulled the Dutch forward off the pitch following a lackluster display, with Zirkzee walking straight down the tunnel.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Foster insisted that under Sir Alex Ferguson, Zirkzee’s actions would have ended his United career.
“If Alex Ferguson would have been manager, that player would have been done,” Foster said on The Cycling GK.
He added, “If you walk off that pitch, get a coat, and head to the dressing room – you’re done.
“It just doesn’t work like that.”
Foster sympathised with Zirkzee, highlighting the toxic atmosphere at Old Trafford during the match.
“It is a horrible situation… United were getting pumped. It felt like he (Zirkzee) was the scapegoat.”
Zirkzee later returned to the dugout, but Foster emphasised the difficulty of the moment, saying, “He was just one of 11 problems on that pitch.”
