For the first time since 2011/12, Bayern are no longer the champions of Germany, with Xabi Alonso’s Bayern Leverkusen winning the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal this season.

Previously, Bayern have dominated the German league, winning the Bundesliga for 11 straight seasons.

With their title taken from them, Bayern are now looking to reinforce their squad to take the crown back next season.

Reports from Brazilian publication Trivela are that Bayern are turning to one of Manchester United’s star midfielders in an attempt to strengthen the middle of the pitch.

It’s come to light that the German giants have held initial talks with United over the availability of veteran midfielder Casemiro.

In recent weeks, speculation has risen around Casemiro’s future at Old Trafford with his declining performances over the last year.

It’s expected that with the new transfer policy in place at Old Trafford, trying to build a squad of younger players that a number of the more senior players, like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, will be offloaded this summer.

The Brazilian star has gathered a lot of interest over the last month from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, however his high price tag has been a point of contention to talks going further.

It’s been reported previously that Cristiano Ronaldo has tried to call in a favour with United and get reinforcements if the form of Casemiro, with his club, Al-Nassr, ready to offer between €90 million and €100 million to reunite the old Real Madrid and United teammates.

With such interest from the Saudi clubs, it looked as though this was most likely to be Casemiro’s destination this summer, especially with the Brazilian’s hefty wage, however the interest from Bayern has thrown a curveball for the midfielder.

The 32-year-old was reportedly enticed by the interest and potential of joining another top European team, however Bayern have since decided to go a different way and end discussions for the midfielder, moving focus to Fulham’s Joao Palhinha.
