Barcelona continue to experience significant financial pressures after years of buying expensive stars despite their budgetary struggles.
Over the last few years the club have been reliant on their academy graduates, loans or free transfers except for the odd exception.
Some major free signings such as Ilkay Gundogan, Marcos Alonso and Andreas Christensen have seen some top Premier League talents move to Spain. However the club have continued to play bing money for the likes of Robert Lewandowski (£37 million), Rahinha (£48 million) and Dani Olmo (£50 million).
Unfortunately for the latter, the LaLiga only granted a temporary registration from his signing in the summer until the end of 2024 due to the club’s poor financial situation.
Barcelona have instigated legal proceedings against the league, however are yet to hear back on a resolution.
Despite the temporary registration, Olmo has been giving his all for Barca, grabbing six goals and an assist in 15 games to help the club fight for positions at the top of the Champions League and LaLiga.
However, with his potential tenure at Camp Nou coming to an end, several top European clubs are waiting in the wings for a move in January to sign Olmo.
Manchester United have joined the race alongside Manchester City, Arsenal and Bayern Munich. However, the two Mancunian sides may have the advantage.

Barcelona star Dani Olmo’s agent arrives in Manchester
Recently Olmo’s agent Andy Bara was seen in Manchester, arriving on Boxing Day, adding fuel to the fire of a move to the city in January.
With United headed to Wolverhampton for their Boxing Day fixture, whilst City host Everton, speculation is rising that the visit could be linked with The Citizens.
Whilst it’s understood that Bara was due to be attending the City game, adding to the rumours, he commented to The Daily Mail: “Yes, it is correct I am in Manchester. I am here on holidays.”
At this time, Olmo’s preferred option is to stay at Barcelona, however Bara appears to be working proactively to ensure his star still has a club come January, wherever that may be.
