The acting Chairman of the Katsina State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Amadu Surajo, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits, who also abducted his wives and daughter.
A security expert and journalist based in the state, Dan Bakatsine who reported the sad news on his X handle, @DanKatsina on Sunday, said the bandits attacked Surajo on Saturday night.
“Yesterday night, bandits attacked the residence of Alhaji Surajo Ahmed, the Katsina State Chairman of Miyetti Allah, in Mai Rana community, Kusada LGA of Katsina State. They killed him and kidnapped his two wives and daughter.
“The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) is a non-partisan advocacy group focused on promoting the welfare of Fulani pastoralists in Nigeria,” he wrote.
A family member of the deceased who also confirmed the murder of the Miyetti Allah chairman to newsmen, said the bandits also killed two other people and injured several others in the attack.
“The incident occurred in the late hours of Saturday night into the wee hours of Sunday morning when the hoodlums attacked Mai Rana village in Kusada Local Government Area,” the family member said.
“The criminals abducted the first and second wives of the acting chairman, along with one of his daughters, who is an undergraduate at one of the public universities in the country.
“But the first wife was later released by the hoodlums earlier today,” he added.
Surajo was the state Secretary of MACBAN before he was elevated to Acting Chairman after the National Vice President of the body who was also the Katsina Chairman, Munnir Lamido, disappeared mysteriously in June last year after he reportedly left Katsina for Kaduna State and has not been seen since then.
