Gunmen suspected to be bandits in the early hours of Sunday attacked the Kakin Dawa village in the Gidan Goga district of Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State and abducted over 50 women and girls.
Residents told journalists on Monday the gunmen invaded the community with sophisticated weapons at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday and moved from house to house where they abducted the victims.
One of the residents said the abducted victims include little girls some as young as three years
“When the heavily armed bandits invaded the village, everyone started running because they had been targeting our village; later we discovered that more than 50 of our women were abducted. Those they kidnapped included young girls and married women.”
The Spokesman for the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
He said details of the incident were still sketchy but promised to release a comprehensive statement once the police can ascertain the authenticity of the report.
