Tekken 8 is right around the corner, but 2024 also marks the 30th anniversary of Tekken, which was just pointed out to us with a slight error.
During the Tekken Talk Live event for the Tekken World Tour 2023 Finals this past weekend, Bandai Namco appeared to use a meme cover art for a past Tekken title during their presentation — and what’s even funnier is it might be partially our fault.
The unintentional gaffe was pointed out by PrinceWhatever on X/Twitter after the event showing that the timeline for Tekken’s 30th anniversary seemingly used a joke cover art for Tekken 2, which is barely noticeable unless you look really closely.
We didn’t fully believe it at first, but we looked it up and there it was in the official video at the 26:34 mark. It’s real.

This meme cover in question took the official artwork and added the infamous faces of Chun-Li, Dante and Chris Redfield from Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
Moreover it featured Wonder Woman and Aquaman from Injustice 2 as well as Andy Bogard from The King of Fighters 14 to joke that maybe fighting game faces haven’t improved all that much over the past 20 years at that point.
It’s a pretty small mistake that hopefully no one gets in real trouble for, but it is a hilarious one.
Another user Alessio replied that Bandai Namco may have done this once before in a post on X last year, but the tweet currently shows the real cover (though it could have been deleted and replaced once the mistake was noticed if this image is legitimate).

So how does EventHubs factor into this?
We featured the Tekken 2 cover art on the site back in June 2017 as part of an FGC meme roundup article alongside other images poking fun at Marvel Infinite, Injustice and Street Fighter 5.
The source we originally got the image from was on r/kappa, which no longer exists and does not seem to be properly archived, so EventHubs now appears to be the main source of the meme online.
This meme shows up in the top Google searches when looking up “Tekken 2 cover art” leading back to our site, so there’s an extremely high chance that whoever made that Tekken Talk presentation downloaded that image from us.
The layers of all this just got funnier and funnier the more we looked deeper at it, and hopefully you feel the same.
You can see the presentation slide in question in the video below, and let it serve as a reminder to always double check what media / information you’re using. But also that mistakes happen, and that’s okay, especially when it’s funny.
