Banana Guard revealed for MultiVersus; see his gameplay trailer here

Another new character has been officially revealed for Multiversus as the trailer for Adventure Time’s Banana Guard dropped early on Friday.

The goofy fighter is literally a banana with arms and legs (and sometimes breasts) who wields a spear. How might such a character fare amid a platform fighter atmosphere? Continue on to see.

Eagle-eyed fans actually spotted this character while watching a different MultiVersus trailer that went up on Thursday as the PvE showcase video revealed him on the character select screen for a split (not doing the pun) second.

You can check out the full trailer below before we dig into why this is an extremely questionable choice from developers.

Having the entirety of Warner Bros. properties at your disposal makes for near infinite possibilities when it comes to fleshing out your roster, and thus far MultiVersus has made more than a few strong choices with mega popular figures like Batman and slightly more obscure but beloved ones like The Iron Giant.

Still, there are tons of characters that would blow fans away for myriads of reasons, and Banana Guard is just not one of them. In fact, Banana Guard isn’t even the first pick most fans of Adventure Time would choose, considering the show doesn’t use them all that often.

What’s more, he’s already in the game as a TV summons and so to fill up a roster slot with this choice starts to feel like an extremely odd call, to put it nicely. Even if you wanted to go with a more obscure side character, there are probably 10-20 to choose from Rick and Morty alone (when’s Krombopulos Michael?) that’d be more appreciated.

We won’t judge too harshly as MultiVersus isn’t even out yet, and perhaps Banana Guard will prove to be especially fun and enticing for reasons we can’t quite see yet. We’d love to hear your thoughts on his trailer as well as the call to include him in the comments below.

MultiVersus is set to launch in full on May 28 with new characters, modes, rollback netcode, and more, so the team will probably have plenty more to show in the coming days / weeks.
