The Bakor New Yam Festival received a significant show of support on Saturday, September 14, 2025, when the Cross River State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Honorable Oden Ewa, announced a donation of N8 million. The announcement was made during a town hall meeting in Edor, Ikom Local Government Area, which gathered a diverse group of community members, including youth groups, women, elders and traditional leaders.
Honorable Ewa, who also chairs the Cross River State Climate Council, stated that the donation was made in the spirit of the new yam festivities to help support the celebration. He also took the opportunity to commend the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Honorable Elvert Ayambem, for his efforts in promoting unity among the Bakor people.
In his remarks, Speaker Ayambem praised Commissioner Ewa for his generosity, noting that his support not only for the Bakor people but for other ethnic groups across the state. The Speaker described Ewa’s actions as a reflection of the kind of leadership qualities often missing in public service and encouraged him to continue his good work.
Earlier on, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Cross River State, Honorable Emmanuel Ironbar, also spoke at the event. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the people of Bakor. Ironbar noted the Otu-led administration’s achievements in just over two years and expressed confidence that even more progress would be made before 2027.
The event saw attendance from several prominent figures, including members of the Cross River State House of Assembly and some members of the State Executive Council, as well as various local government chairmen and other key stakeholders.
