CALABAR – A community development group, known as Great Cabal Organisation has called on the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu to look into their plight and restore a 5 year old total blackout in Bakassi.
Speaking during the inauguration and induction ceremony of new executive officers and members of the group in Ikang town, Bakassi, Local Government Area, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Organization, Elder Edet Bassey Okon said the Bakassi people have been totally cut off from the rest of the world having faced a total blackout due a cut off from public power supply.
According to Elder Bassey, Bakassi is used to incessant cut from public power supply, but this particular one is the longest blackout, an occurrence which he said has hindered business growth and viable economic activities in the community. Lamenting the current hardship in the country, occasioned by fuel subsidy removal, the Chairman said Bakassi people are seriously suffering and in dire need of help.
“Look at the situation of things in the country now. Fuel price is up. Prices of all commodities are high. In this same situation there is no power supply in Bakassi for over 5 years. We are really suffering and it is affecting our members” he noted.
He however called on governor Bassey Otu to come to their aide and look into the restoration of light in the Bakassi as businesses in Bakassi are currently suffering a heavy setback.
Speaking on the vision of the organization, the newly inaugurated Secretary, Mr. Ette Etim Effiom, said “we are a group of business men and women who come together to address the physical and social needs of our community.”
The inauguration which was conducted by a legal practitioner, Barr. Emmanuel Effiom was well attended by members of the business and political class in and outside of Bakassi.
Other members of the new EXCOs include Moses Benjamin, Akparawa Goodnews, Saviour Nyong, John Bernard, Joshua Augustine, Edet-Obong Edet, Idara Okon, Patrick Okon, Ekom Jah, Joseph J. Jimmy, and Eno John Bernard.
The Board of Trustees Chairman, Mr. Victor John, was also present at the inauguration service. Other members of the board of trustees are Sunday Isaac, Uduak Ukpabio, Godwin Okon Edet, Felix Asuquo, Edet Bassey, Ubong Okon, Ime Okon Asuquo amongst others.
