Tweet: US witnesses rise in Omicron cases
Reports from the CDC show that the recently transmitted Omicron subvariant makes up more than a third of the Covid-19 cases reported the previous week. CDC’s reports reveal that BA.4 and BA.5 variant together is responsible for 35% of the new cases, which is a 23% increase from last week.
These highly transmissible strains only started to spread in the US recently. The other subvariants of Omicron are now subsiding, while the BA.5 and BA.4 variants are circulating rapidly.
However, BA.4 and BA.5 don’t have any reported cases of severe infection. Authorities are still clueless if these new subvariants will increase the number of reported cases in the country. Experts are convinced that this new variant will remain in circulation for some more time.
