The signing of Ayden Heaven is a continuation of a new transfer philosophy at Manchester United since INEOS take charge of footballing matters at the club.
It seems that the days of signing overly expensive players who don’t hit their potential and struggling to sell them are behind us.
One of those examples left Old Trafford earlier in this window.
Antony joined Real Betis from Manchester United on loan in order to increase his potential value ahead of a permanent transfer from the club.
Although Antony isn’t the only example, he’s certainly the biggest example of a failed transfer policy that United had employed under the previous regime.
Spending £86m on an attacking player with only 12 goals and 5 assists in 96 games is shocking.
Thankfully, it seems that the club have finally learnt their lesson.
Ayden Heaven is the latest player to arrive in Manchester as a bargain young player with a huge ceiling.
Signing Ayden Heaven from Arsenal on a free transfer is a major coup consider the North London side tried their hardest to convince the player to sign a new contract.
It follows transfers for Chido Obi-Martin, who also joined from Arsenal for free, Diego Leon and Sekou Kone as future first team stars at a very low risk cost.
This type of approach has proved effective for the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool in recent years and it seems that Manchester United have finally caught up.
And now we have the details on the contract that Ayden Heaven has signed at United.
Manchester United have confirmed that Ayden Heaven is joining the club on a four and a half year contract.
The contract also includes an option to extend the contract for another year if the club want to.
So Ayden Heaven is effectively signed for 5 and a half years, if the club want to keep him for that long.
The end of the initial four and a half year deal would be June 2029.
At just 18, that means that his major development years will be spent at Manchester United.
If Heaven does last at the club until 2030, then he’ll likely be a key part of the United first team.
Here’s wishing all the best to Manchester United’s latest first team signing.
