A flurry of applauds and encomiums have continued to greet the ongoing repair of dilapidated roads especially in Calabar South LGA and Calabar Metropolis.
Residents of the affected areas who said they are overwhelmed with joy that the roads which have remained in a state of disrepair and a deathtrap to road users have at last, started receiving attention from the state government and being given a new lease of life.
The residents who pointed out that they are aware of the enormous work Governor Ben Ayade is doing to improve infrastructure in every part of Cross River State, said they are particularly excited that the governor has brought the road repair projects to their immediate locality.
A school teacher and resident of Calabar Metropolis, Pascal Nakada, said the Governor has won the heart of residents of the metropolis because of the construction work on the road.
According to him, the repairs of the roads has shown that the governor is not only a listening governor but also a man who understands what governance is all about. ” When this government into power, our expectations were high that Cross River citizens are going to begin to enjoy the dividends of of democracy and so it was not surprising when the governor rolled the trucks to repair the roads.
“Cross River is on the right track with this governor. He has began so many initiatives that are transforming the state and the legacies he is leaving will definitely be available for a long time. Every sector of the economy of the state is feeling his impact. I just pray that this government will be allowed a second term, I know how this state will be like”.
Chief Edem Okon, an indigene of Cross River South also gave Governor Ayade a high score stressing that among all the governors who have ruled the state, none has brought in more development to the state like the current governor.
According to him, Governor Ayade has touched the life of every local government and community in the state. ” I have been in this state since I was a child. I must confess that this governor is exceptional. In fact, he has impressed everybody greatly and I don't see any way he will not win the next governorship election.
“This repair work is a great achievement. The roads were in a terrible shape before now but this repair has changed the face of the local government. As I speak, the repair works are going smoothly and will soon be completed. Our youths have been so touched, many are now having employment and we no longer have restive youths”.
A taxi driver, Gideon, who claims that he has been plying his business on the metropolis road for years said at last, the governor of Prof. Ayade has touched their lives. He said, before the repairs on the road, it was a nightmare experience driving on the road. According to him, now their vehicle will have a longer life and they will not have to be spending so much on repairs of their vehicles.
“I cannot express my joy at this ongoing repair work. This has always been my prayers and I thank God that my prayer has finally been answered. This governor is truly a sensitive governor and I pray that God will bless him and give him more wisdom to improve the work he is doing in the state. I must say that it is not only this road repairs, but many other things that he is doing. He has won our hearts and we are all for him,” he said.
The roads rehabilitation is currently ongoing at Target road by Nelson mandela and William George street by Dan Archibong street.
