The Executive Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, last week approved the appointment of Akamkpa-born Princess, Hon. Mrs Imelda Asikpo, as his Personal Assistant (PA) on Widow Affairs.
Hon Asikpo is the widow to late former Akamkpa representative in Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Alexis Asikpo. She has been Supervisor for Health, Akamkpa LGA under Hon Denis Nkiri, she is a member Cross River State Women in Politics.
Meanwhile, the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of CrossRiverWatch, Agba Jalingo, Cross River leading online news retail outfit, has chided Gov Ayade over the said appointment siting state lean resources and replication of responsibility.
The media figure who observed that this appointment was ridiculous noted that, 'The governor that is saying he got zero allocation, the governor who is slicing the statutory dues of hundreds of other aides he has already appointed to cope with the number, should stop this appointments ala carte'.
'There is a ministry of social welfare that is already accommodating widows issues and if the governor needed to compensate anyone, she would have been sent there', he continued
He further opined that, 'These bazaar of appointments, some of which have no clear cut job description is becoming nauseating'.
His Excellency seem not to find wisdom in the advice given recently in a meeting in Aso Rock where the Minister of Finance asked governors to reduce the number of aides they are appointing siting paucity of financial resources at the centre.
Congratulations Hon Imelda Asikpo!
